Helping Hand’s Tsunami Relief Partners Meet UN officials

Resident Coordinator of United Nations in Sri Lanka, Mr. Miguel Bermeo, has invited Social Service Department of JI Sri Lanka, one of the Helping Hand’s relief’s partner organizations in Sri Lanka to join a small group of civil society representatives meeting with the UN Secretary General Mr. Koffi Annan's Deputy Special Envoy for Tsunami Recovery, Mr. Erskine Bowles, Monday 21st March 2005, at the “Salon Orchid”, Hotel Galadari, Colombo

Dr. M.C.M.Mahees, Coordinator of Social Service Department’s Tsunami Relief Campaign in the South Eastern Region, represented SSD at this meeting. At a similar occasion with UN Secretary General Mr. Koffi Annan in last January, Mr. Abdur Rahman, Head of Social Services Department, was representing SSD.

The main focus of this meeting was to hear from the representatives of civil society organizations about the humanitarian context of tsunami in Sri Lanka and relief and recovery efforts as seen from a civil society perspective
